Saint Patrick’s Day is a cultural and religious celebration held on March 17. This day is celebrated in honor of Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. He was given credit for converting Ireland to Christianity in the AD 400s, Basically meaning that he was a very important man. It was made an official Christian feast day in the early 17th century. Many celebrations include public parades and festivals. The big thing people know to do on Saint Patty’ Day is to wear the color green or get pinched if you don’t. They chose the color green to wear because the color of a shamrock which is a symbol to the Irish heritage.
According to the legend, Saint Patrick used the shamrock to explain the Trinity to the people. One Irish American dish is corn beef and cabbage; Irish Americans could not afford certain meals, and this is all they could afford. It became a tradition for the holiday. Saint Patrick’ Day is celebrated widely by Irish decedents around the world.
